Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hand Therapy?

Hand therapy is a specialized form of rehabilitation focused on the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand. It addresses everything from post-surgical recovery to chronic conditions like arthritis and nerve injuries.

At Greenville Hand Therapy, your care is provided by Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs)—licensed Occupational Therapists who have undergone extensive post-professional training in upper extremity rehabilitation. To earn the CHT credential, therapists must accumulate over 4,000 hours of direct hand therapy experience, pass a rigorous national certification exam, and maintain ongoing education to stay current with the latest techniques and research

This level of specialization ensures that your treatment is not only compassionate and personalized—but also grounded in clinical excellence and advanced expertise.

Do I need a referral to start therapy?

In Texas, Occupational Therapists are allowed to evaluate patients without a physician’s referral. That means you can schedule an initial assessment with us even if you haven’t yet seen your doctor.

However, if therapy is recommended following your evaluation, a referral from a licensed medical provider is required to begin treatment. Don’t worry—we’ll help guide you through that process. We work closely with local physicians and can assist in coordinating the referral so your care isn’t delayed.

What types of conditions do you treat?

At Greenville Hand Therapy, we specialize in treating a wide range of upper extremity conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Post-surgical rehabilitation for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand
  • Arthritis (including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Tendonitis and repetitive strain injuries
  • Nerve injuries, such as carpal tunnel syndrome or cubital tunnel syndrome
  • Work-related injuries and overuse syndromes
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Custom splinting and orthotic fabrication
  • Post-stroke rehabilitation for upper limb function

Is therapy covered by insruance?

Yes—therapy is often covered by insurance, and we’re committed to making care accessible to as many patients as possible.

Greenville Hand Therapy is currently contracted with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). We’re actively working to expand our network and will soon be accepting:

  • Medicare
  • Medicaid
  • TriCare
  • Humana
  • Cigna
  • Aetna
  • United Healthcare
  • Workers’ Compensation plans

If you’re unsure about your coverage, feel free to contact us. We’ll help verify your benefits and guide you through the process so you can focus on healing—not paperwork.

What if I don't have insurance?

No problem—you can still receive expert care at Greenville Hand Therapy. We offer a cash pay system for patients without insurance or those who prefer to pay out-of-pocket.

Our cash pay rates are transparent and affordable, with no surprise fees. You’ll receive the same focused, one-on-one treatment from our Certified Hand Therapists, whether you're insured or not.

If you're unsure which option is best for you, just reach out—we’re happy to walk you through your choices and help you get started.
